Sunset Gazing on the Coldest Day in New England

How in your orange brilliance,

did you not want to share warmth today?

Are you a humble sun?

Not wanting to steal from snowfall’s looming show?

Are you a protective sun?

Not wanting to tease us with the comfort of your rays?

with so much winter remaining?

Or do we overanalyze you?

Should we let you rest,

and look for you through the snowflake,

on your daily journey from east to west?
