Snow and the Sea

How lucky are we

to have snow and the sea?

Waves crashing on ice

where sand used to be.

Cold air that’s salty and smokey,

from fireplaces nearby.

Storm clouds that break

for ocean’s horizon line.

Branches weighted by snowfall

in backyard’s trees.

They don’t seem to mind.

How lucky are we?
